The torrential rains and heavy winds experienced in the plantation areas of the country had adversely affected the country's tea industry causing a severe drop in tea harvest,news sources said.Planters says that the inclement weather conditions have brought down the number of working days of the plantation workers to 15 - 20 per month.
Sri Lanka's hill country where major tea plantations are located and the low country Kalutara, Ratnapura, Galle and Matara districts where tea small holdings are situated are experiencing heavy rain and winds for two weeks with the strengthening of the southwestern monsoon.
