Sri Lanka temporarily suspends New Zealand milk powder
Fonterra has temporarily suspended its consumer operations in Sri Lanka because of an unstable situation in the country,New Zealand dairy giant Fonterra Co-operative said.
Chief executive Theo Spierings said the move was to ensure Fonterra's 755 staff in Sri Lanka are ''safe'' and to secure the company's assets.
Earlier this week Fonterra was banned by a Sri Lankan court from selling products, and it is in a dispute with the country’s food safety authorities about the presence of a toxic agricultural chemical in some products.
