Pope’s visit officially announced
His Holiness Pope Francis’ visit to Sri Lanka has been officially announced. This announcement was made at the Madhu Shrine by His Eminence Cardinal Dr. Ranjith Malcolm where he was the chief celebrant of festive High Mass. The Pope’s scheduled visit has also been announced by the official newspaper of the Sri Lanka Catholic Church. His Holiness Pope will arrive at the Bandaranaike International Airport on January 13, 2015 at 9.00 a.m. and will be escorted to the Bishop’s House, where he will hold a special discussion with the Bishops. A luncheon will follow. 

On the same afternoon, a meeting between the Pope and President Mahinda Rajapaksa will take place. His Holiness will also meet dignitaries of other religions the same day. A Pontifical High Mass will be offered at the Galle Face Green on January 14 morning. In the evening, His Holiness Pope Francis will officiate at the Holy Mass due to be celebrated at the Madhu Church in Mannar and will bless the people with the statue of Our Lady of Madhu at the end of the religious service.
