Sri Lanka ranks within Top 10 of the 2014 World Giving Index 
Sri Lanka  ranked ninth place at the 2014 World Giving Index (WGI) , according to the recently released World Giving Index (WGI) report.

According to the annual report released by the Charities Aid Foundation, Sri Lanka with a strong Theravada Buddhist community is the top most generous country in the subcontinent placing 9th out of 135 countries with a score of 54.

Sri Lanka ranked at the third place for participation in volunteering time but ranked at 40 for helping a stranger and at 17 for donating money.

Both the United States and Myanmar ranked as the most generous countries in the world with Canada ranking at third place, Ireland at fourth and New Zealand at fifth place.  

The next five most generous countries were Australia, Malaysia and the United Kingdom, Sri Lanka and Trinidad and Tobago respectively.
Sri Lanka’s neighbours like India had ranked at 69, Pakistan at 61, Bangladesh at 72 with Afghanistan ranking at 79 and Nepal at 44 in the index.
